Beneath Breath, 2026

Beneath Breath, 2026, solo window installation of works at 138 Gallery, Brunswick East VIC

Beneath Breath is an installation that considers sleep and breath as quiet acts of repair. Working with bed sheets and dismantled bed parts, the materials transform the space into something both familiar and contemplative, evoking the closeness of being alone with oneself at rest. This state of rest carries trace and tenderness, as the body quietly works to restore itself for the day ahead. The bedroom becomes a site of intimacy, privacy, and vulnerability. Through the glass of the window, an interface between inside and outside, this private space is opened to public view. Passersby encounter the work through breath: a visual rhythm that moves through the installation, recalling the body’s presence during sleep.

Held within this public-facing space, vulnerability is not made into spectacle, but offered gently. Beneath Breath invites a pause, an encounter with the ongoing, unseen labour of healing that takes place quietly during sleep.
